How I Figured Out I Was an Empath: A Cautionary Tale

Although these days, articles and pages dedicated to exploring the empath realm are becoming the norm, there was a time in which the term was virtually unknown. So, as you can imagine, plenty of us spent our entire lives living as an empath while not having any idea what an empath was.

This Was My Life in a Nutshell

I always knew I was highly sensitive. I cried at the drop of a dime and seemed to feel things more deeply than others. This was especially the case when it comes to dealing with the emotions of others. I have always been the type who will start shedding tears simply from witnessing someone else in distress. On the other hand, I also never understood why so many people seemed threatened or jealous when others became successful; I also experienced others' joys and triumphs on the same level. It took me many years to figure out this was not the norm. While it may sound harmless, unknowingly being an empath actually wreaked havoc on my entire existence.

What is an Empath?

Well, it depends on who you ask, but according to an article written on Very Well Mind, an empath is defined as,

A person highly attuned to the feelings and emotions of those around them. Their ability to discern what others are feeling goes…
