Why Empaths Should Never Watch the News

As previously mentioned in my article “How I Figured Out I Was an Empath: A Cautionary Tale,” I explained how being an empath is a gift and a curse. On the one hand, you are uniquely gifted in being able to feel the emotions of others. This makes it possible for you to connect with others on a deeper level and often help them in ways in which others have failed to do.

On the other hand, constantly being bombarded with the unfiltered emotions of others can wreak havoc on your mental and physical health. Think about it this way; empaths often play the role of an unpaid therapist who is highly emotionally invested in each client. Most therapists are trained to learn to compartmentalize and not take their work home with them. However, as an empath, you likely didn’t even realize you were playing this role, and even if you did, you probably still didn’t know how to set healthy boundaries to prevent you from taking on other’s problems as your own.

OK, But This Has What to Do With the News?

Well, as one of my favorite artists, Kanye West, so eloquently put it in his video for Runaway, “First rule in this world, baby, don’t pay attention to anything you see in the news.”
